Abstract Lagging capacity of China iron and steel industry is an important cause of low product quality, high energy consumption and serious pollution. The main measures of washing out lagging capacity, the problems and reasons of these measures are presented. New measures to be implemented by are formed through controlling the market, by large and middle state owned steel plants to accelerate the washing out lagging capacity.
