Abstract The roll eccentricity is the main factor influencing the thickness of strip product. Therefore,the compensation control of roll eccentricity is always an important part of automatic gauge control (AGC) for cold strip rolling. To reduce the influence of roll eccentricity on thickness of strip, a method of roll eccentricity compensation based on RBF network is introduced which has been used on 5stand cold tandem mill at Hebei Zhonggang Group. It was approved that the method is effective to improve the thickness control precision.
