Numerical Simulation of Thermal Evolution of Hot Rolled Strip during Run-out Table Cooling and Prediction and Analysis of Coiling Temperature |

Abstract An integrated process modeling system was built for hot strip rolling, in which thermal, mechanical and metallurgical processes from reheating furnace to coiling of a steel strip had been numerically and successfully coupled together, enabling to predict and analyze microstructure and property evolution during hot rolling. With the help of the powerful tool, the cooling and coiling processes during hot strip rolling at 2050 HSM of Baosteel Co., Ltd. were investigated. The heat transfer coefficient model was established and modified, the contribution of phase transformation latent heat to strip temperature was calculated, and the effect of process parameters (cooling patterns, velocity and thickness) on the coiling temperature was simulated. Results showed that Standard Deviation between measured temperature and predicted temperature is less than 14℃, the contribution of phase transformation latent heat to strip temperature is 28℃, cooling patterns, velocity and thickness are very important factors affecting coiling temperature, The simulation can help steel makers to better understand their processing.
