Abstract The high temperature mechanical properties of CSP slab have been investigated by Gleebe1500 hot simulator. The horizontal and vertical section of samples were observed by optical microscope and SEM at 800 ℃, 900 ℃, 1100 ℃. The morphology of fracture was analyzed by TEM, and segregation at grain boundaries and inclusions have been analyzed by XEDS. The test results showed that there are two temperature areas of brittleness for slab produced by CSP within 600~1320 ℃, the first temperature area of brittleness(Ⅰ) is 1320~1200 ℃, the second temperature area of brittleness(Ⅲ) is 600~1000 ℃, the steel is plastic within 1000~1200 ℃, and Z=8.46% at 800 ℃. There are two reasons for Ⅲ temperature area of brittleness, the first is the stress concentrated caused by precipitation of deformation induced ferrite, the second is precipitation of nitride(AlN) at austenitic boundaries, and the essence of cracking of CSP slab is the nitride(AlN) precipitation at austenitic grain boundaries, making stress concentrated and voids formed, grew up and aggregated.
