Abstract Relationship among impact energy, lateral expansion, percent of fibroustiy and temperature of HSLA Q345D heavy plate were investigated. Tough-brittle transition temperature (TBTT) was determined on HSLA Q345D heavy plate with different thickness using Boltzmann function fitting method. Results show that TBTT obtained through fitting varies from each other, and TBTT of the thicker samples is lower than that of the thin samples. The low temperature toughness of Q345D was improved to a large extent through optimizing process parameters of continuous casting and controlled rolling process.
