Abstract Steelmaking-continuous casting is the important section in iron and steel manufacturing process, and the calculation of productivity and operating rates is a common concerned problem. The effect of such factors as production mix, casting speed and nominal capacity on flow productivity and operating rates was carried out based on the combination of Gantt chart. The result shows that the casting speed is the key influencing factor of flow productivity and operating rates and the nominal capacity should be chosen according to the casting speed. The production has little influence on the values mentioned above. The rational flow capacity and nominal capacity are proposed in view of different casting speed.
