Monitoring Analysis for Mould Friction Behavior in Wide and Thick Slab Continuous Casting |

Abstract Mould/slab friction behavior had a great impact on the slab surface quality. Taking the mould process for wide and thick slab continuous casting as an object, mould/slab friction was continuously detected under hydraulic oscillators. Aiming to provide the experimental basis for investigating and controlling the mould / slab friction behavior, main process parameters influencing on the friction such as the casting temperature, slab section, casting speed and mould oscillation modes were tested and analyzed. Under the same casting conditions, mould friction is slightly declined with the increasing casting temperature, and enhanced with the increase of slab width. A reasonable match of sinusoidal, non-sinusoidal oscillation mode and control model among casting speed, frequency and stroke can significantly improve the mould/slab friction behavior under high casting speed. The development and optimization of mould oscillation contribute to demonstrate hydraulic oscillators and maintain the slab surface quality during high speed continuous casting.
