Abstract Steel industry is the basic industrial sector of the national economy,which is one of the fundamental elements to measure a country′s level of development. China has become the world′s largest steel manufacturing country,but its overall innovation capability and product competitiveness are large but not strong. It has become a major strategic task for China′s economic and social development in the new period to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of steel manufacturing industry to a powerful steel manufacturing country. Intelligent manufacturing is the deep integration of next generation information and communication technology and advanced manufacturing technology,and it runs through all stages of the manufacturing process. Intelligent manufacturing based on the new generation of artificial intelligence technology is the key development direction of the future high-end equipment manufacturing industry,which is also a new opportunity for the innovation and development of China′s steel industry. The characteristics of intelligent manufacturing and the application and development trend of artificial intelligence technology in intelligent manufacturing are deeply analyzed,so as to provide the development suggestions on how to promote the application of artificial intelligence in intelligent manufacturing,and plan the path for domestic enterprises to develop intelligent manufacturing by using artificial intelligence,which provides reference for the development of intelligent manufacturing in China.
