Abstract

Based on the cellular automaton (CA) made up of regular hexagon cells, the nearest neighbor type and the probabilistic translation rules, grain growth process after recrystallization is completed has been simulated. The validity of the model was verified by the shrinking of the circle grain embedded concentricity in a square. The microstructure evolution was analyzed, the kinetics of grain growth and the variation of interfacial energy were given, and the distributions of grain size and grain sides were discussed on that basis. It turned out that the microstructure evolution was in accordance with the normal grain growth theory, and the time invariant nature of grain size and grain sides distributions were extensively validated, and the variation of interfacial energy followed the energy degradation principle. The analysis indicates that normal grain growth can be simulated fairly well by the present CA model.
