Abstract:Aiming at the serious crack defects of wire rod in producing process of free-cutting steel in Xiangtan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., the causes of the defects were systematically analyzed and clarified, which was mainly the extension of the surface defects of the billet caused by the mismatch of mold flux. On this basis, Technical ideas and solutions for the development and application of special mold flux with higher viscosity, lower melting rate and higher thermal resistance was proposed. After using the new special mold flux, the surface quality of the billet was good, the long cracks of the coil after rolling were eliminated, and the number of the short cracks was reduced from 0.95 to 0.06 per wire rod. The crack defects of the cast billet and the rolled coil were effectively suppressed, the surface quality was greatly improved.
