Abstract:Longitudinal crack is the most common surface defects arising in as-cast slabs. It is well-known that peritectic steel are particularly vulnerable to longitudinal cracking, this problem has long plagued the metallurgical workers. With the development of hot delivery and hot charging and thin slab continuous casting-continuous rolling technology, no defects casting billet production become even more important. Combined with previous studies and the author’s work, this paper discussed the formation of longitudinal cracks of peritectic steel and reviewed the countermeasures to prevent it. We hope this has some benefit for solve the problem of longitudinal crack on peritectic steel slab.
