Abstract:Considering the variation of flow and heat transfer conditions in the liquid region slab continuous casting strand, the influence of m ratio of effective thermal conductivity to solid thermal conductivity on simulation result was studied with a one-dimensional unsteady solidification heat transfer model. The results show that, under the same secondary cooling condition, the value of m has a great effect on the model calculating result; the same depth of liquid core can be obtained with a constant m or a variable m along with casting direction, but the variations of solidified shell thickness are different from each other, particularly at the exit of the mold. Moreover, if the secondary cooling condition is changed, the depths of liquid core will no longer be equal to each other. Therefore, the taking m as a constant is unreasonable.
