Abstract:By means of the analysis of SEM and metallograph of the samples cut from the transverse cracks on the surface of the slabs and plates of Nb bearing steel in grade Q345E, it is determined that the transverse cracks appeared in the continuous casting mold. After analyzing the relevant factors that might cause cracks in the continuous casting mold, the slag powder was optimized and the amount of the cooling water in the continuous casting mold was reduced and the oscillation frequency of the continuous casting mold was increased. These effective measures made the incidence of transverse cracks on the surface of the steel drop from 1.0% to below 0.3%.
