Influence of F-EMS Parameters and Casting Speed on the Inner Quality of 150 mm×150 mm Continuous-Casting Billet

Abstract:The quality of 150 mm×150 mm billet produced by a domestic plant was not stable. The main problem was the high percent defective of central carbon segregation and inner defects. Therefore, experiments were conducted on this continuous-casting machine with F-EMS. It researched the influence of stirring position, frequency, current, stirring?modes of F-EMS and casting speed on the inner quality of billet. It concluded that stirring at the position where the thickness of liquid core is 35 mm or 60 mm would cause the center segregation more serious. The frequency, current, stirring?modes of F-EMS and casting speed could have effect on the inner quality of billet. According to the result of the experiments, the optimal stirring position is where the thickness of liquid core is 45 mm, the optimal stirring parameters are 400 A, 12 Hz and alternating electromagnetic stirring under this working condition. The increasing of casting speed would make against the improving of inner quality of billet.
