Abstract:To control the quality of continuous casting billets of 82 A tire cord steel, a two-dimensional unsteady transient heat transfer model was developed to calculate the temperature field and liquid core length of a billet in continuous casting, and the effects of casting speed and water consumption on the temperature field and solid fraction distribution were discussed, and the simulated result was validated by comparing with pin shooting test within ±4% error range. The simulation results showed that, the drop of the billet center surface temperature lagged when the casting speed increased with a certain water consumption, and solidification end moved forwards when the water consumption increased with a certain casting speed . When the casting speed was 1.3 m·min-1 and water consumption was 0.3 L·kg-1, the solidification end was 12.84 m.The present model can predict the position of final solidifying point and provide reasonable data for F-EMS.
