Effect of M-EMS on quality of 55CrSi spring steel billet

Abstract:In order to study the effect of electromagnetic stirring technology on billet quality duringthe process of 55CrSi spring steel continuous casting,the electromagnetic field distribution in the mold at different stirring parameters was simulated and the electromagnetic torque was calculated using the finite element method. The actual magnetic induction intensity is measured by gauss meter to verify the accuracy of the simulation result.Furthermore, this paper systematically studied the effects of M-EMS current and frequency on thequality of 55CrSi spring steel billet. The experiment results show that while M-EMS current and frequency are 320 A and 3 Hz respectively, the billet center equiaxed crystal ratio is reaching 29.62%, with the center porosity reduced and the shrinkage eliminated, and the billets quality are obviously improved; there is correspondence relationship between the center equiaxed crystal ratio of billet and the electromagnetic torque under the same other casting process parameters condition, that is, the center equiaxed crystal ratio of billet increases with the raising electromagnetic torque.
