Abstract:In order to optimize the refining process, 410 stainless steel samples were taken from AOD furnace, LF and ingot respectively. The morphology and compositions of typical inclusions in these three stages were observed and identified by scanning electron microscopy with an EDS analyzer. It can be found that the typical inclusion in molten steel during AOD stage is CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-MnO. After LF treatment, the inclusions are mainly composed by CaO-SiO2-MgO-Al2O3, and the total oxygen maintained as the level in the previous stage of AOD. In the ingot, the main inclusion is SiO2-Al2O3-MgO-CaO with small amount of MgO-Al2O3. The results show that by using SiFe alloy and suitable refining slag in smelting process, inclusions ductility can be obtained during LF process without Ca treatment.
