Abstract:During the casting process, the flow field in submerged entry nozzle was impacted by stopper jitters. Water simulation method was used to study the stability of flow field in submerged entry nozzle(SEN) under different stopper opening degree and SEN inserted depth into the mold. The results showed that when the opening degree is 5 mm and 10 mm, the flow velocity distribution was very uneven; when the opening degree is 15 mm and 20 mm, the flow velocity was more evenly distributed. The SEN inserted into the mold at a depth of 100 mm and 150 mm, the immersion nozzle flow velocity was unevenly distributed, but when the depth was 200 mm and 250 mm, the flow velocity was stable. The larger opening degree is, the more stable flow velocity distributed; the larger insertion depth, the more stable flow velocity distributed. The stable flow field helps reduce nozzle clogging and stopper erosion.
