Abstract:Effect of aging time on the hardness and impact toughness of one kind ultra-high strength stainless steel was studied by means of optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and stereomicroscope. The results showed that hardness increases with aging time expansion, corresponding to the change from cutting-mechanism to Orowan bowing mechanism. The precipitation and growth of second-phase particles at early stages of aging are beneficial to the strength of steel, prolonged time will result in lower strength as well as impact toughness due to the coarsening of second-phase particles. From point of view of energy saving, productivity improving and excellent combined mechanical properties, aging time of 4h was preferred
