Abstract:Based on the prototype of the two-strand slab continuous casting tundish in TISCO, the combination of geometric similarity 1:3 water model and numerical simulation was used to study the influence of turbulence inhibitor and the position of weirs and dams on flow field of liquid in tundish. Results show that the short-circuit flow exists in tundish without flow control device, and dead zone ratio is as high as 36.47 %. After the turbulence inhibitor is used, the response time is increased by 13.5 s, the average residence time is extended by 34.8 s, and the dead zone ratio is reduced by 6.33 %. It is more beneficial to improving the flow field in the tundish by increasing the distance of the dams from the long nozzle by 100 mm with keeping the position of the weirs unchanged. Field tests have shown that the total oxygen content of casting billet is reduced from an average of 20.2×10-6 to 15.5×10-6, and reduced by 30.32 %.
