Abstract:Physical simulation experiments and numerical simulations are currently the main methods for optimizing the flow field and structure of the tundish, and the selection of the similarity ratio has a greater impact on the accuracy of the simulation results of the tundish. In order to study the influence of the similarity ratio on the simulation test of the tundish, and to obtain a similarity ratio that more accurately reflects the fluid flow behavior in the actual metallurgical reactor, taking the 80 t slab continuous casting tundish as the research object, using the Fluent model verified by physical simulation to simulate the flow behavior of the flow field inside the tundish with geometric similarity ratios of 1∶1, 1∶2, 1∶4, 1∶6, 1∶8, 1∶10, and obtain the distribution of its velocity and turbulent kinetic energy. The results show that as the similarity ratio decreases, the average velocity of the flow field in the tundish shows a decreasing trend, while the turbulent kinetic energy does not change significantly; the change of the similarity ratio has a more significant impact on the area where the speed changes smoothly in the tundish; when the model similarity ratio is less than 1∶6, the relative error of the model speed is greater than 5% compared with the prototype. Therefore, the selection of the similarity ratio should be greater than 1∶6, it is helpful to improve the accuracy of simulation and accurately restore the actual flow field.
