Abstract A 3D numerical simulation was carried out by commercial software FLUENT, in order to study partial blockage, and effections of magnetic field on mold flow style and inclusion removal. A slid gate was applied to simulate the partial blockage in the SEN. Computing result shows: without magnetic field, when the open rate of slide gate is 80%, the removal of nonmetallic particle inclusion is best; with magnetic field, changes were happenned in mold flow patten and inclusion removal rate; A magnetic field located 350mm down the free face can increase the removal rate of fine nonmetallic inclusion particle. And in this case, changing the open rate of slid gate or magnitude of magnetic field can slightly influence the inclusion particle removal rate.
