Experimental Study on the Behavior of Gas-liquid Interfacial Fluctuation in a Wide Plate Continuous Casting Mold |

Abstract A physical model was established to study the interfacial fluctuation in a wide plate continuous casting mold with argon blowing and the effects of gas flowrate and casting speed on it were investigated. The results show that the average surface fluctuations all increase 1.2 times under all the gas flowrates with argon blowing than that without argon blowing and the region along the nozzle to 2/3 wide face is mainly affected, while the effect on the fluctuation of meniscus is small. Other than the rule that the average surface fluctuation increasing with the increase of gas flowrate and casting speed in conventional slab continous casting mold, in the present experiment the average surface fluctuations all first increase to a maximum then decrease with the increase of the two operation parameters. Furthermore, the optimal gas flowrate to restrain the surface fluctuation was presented by physical model.
