Abstract The continuous casting machine for large round blooms was put into production in 2006, which was introduced from Italy by our company. The steel output through mould copper tubes and actual back-taper control of copper tubes manufactured in China have great influence on cast bloom quality during the actual production and transformation of mould copper tubes. By adopting the copper tube detector, not only the problems of actual taper control and steel output through copper tubes during the casting are solved, but also the measures to improve boom quality and to control the steel breakout are provided.
