Abstract From the practical significances of improving the steel products‘ cleanliness, the stuffing sand is discussed. Based on it, the influence of the stuffing sand on the oxygen content of the liquid steel in one steel factory was analyzed. Through theoretical calculation, the conclusion is that the stuffing sand is detained in the slag after it enters the tundish with the start-up casting of ladle so that the slag’s oxidation was increased. According to the oxygen balance between the slag and molten steel, the stuffing sand could increase the oxygen content of the molten steel and reduce its cleanliness.
