Abstract Based on the analysis of solidification heat transfer process, the solidification heat transfer model was evaluated for continuous casting products. Target surface temperature was determined by means of process conditions. The control model of secondary cooling water distribution was developed based on target surface temperature. Relationship of water and temperature field was obtained under different process conditions, such as steel, casting speed and so on. The slab surface target temperature and simulated temperature are ensured to be same through solidification model and the secondary cooling water control model; and the stability of the slab temperature field was also ensured by timely adjusting the amount of secondary cooling water.
