Abstract Solidification characteristics of 40Cr 410mm×530mm alloy steel bloom caster produced in the New Yegang Co Ltd was studied by means of pin shooting and acid leaching test. Online dynamic secondary cooling water and soft reduction system were calibrated by test result. The test result showed pin shooting test combined with offline transfer mathematical model on the bloom solidification could revise online dynamic secondary cooling water and soft reduction system effectively and optimze secondary cooling water and soft reduction technology. Finally inner slab quality was improved significantly.
