Abstract During the process of continuous casting production of the billet of 53Cr21Mn9Ni4N valve steel, a lot of quality flaws easily appear, such as center unsoundness, center void, segregation, rich columnar crystal and surface depression and so on, For these quality flaws, the surface depression was greatly improved, by adjusting overheat of liquid steel, the strength of cooling, pulling speed, M-EMS currency and F-EMS currency and so on. At the same time, center void and surface depression and so on were reduced significantly.
