Characteristics of sulfide inclusions in sulfur-containing non-quenched and tempered steel |

Abstract The morphology, distribution, aspect ratio, area of sulfides on the?grain boundary and the relationship between cooling?condition and sulfides?deposition were analysed to study the characteristics of sulfides in sulfur-containing non-quenched and tempered steel. It is found that most sulfides on the edge of casting billet are scattered in the grain with a lower aspect ratio. In the other positions, almost all of sulfides gather together on the grain boundary and the aspect ratio is mainly in 1.5-3. The amount of sulfides decreases after an increase when the sample is obtained from the surface to the center of casting billet. The?secondary dendrite arm space?shows?an obviously corresponding relationship and similar changing trend with total area?of the?sulfides, which indirectly reflects the influence of cooling rate and solidification process to sulfide precipitation and growth.
