Experimental on the interface fluctuation behavior of liquid metal with vertical electromagnetic brake in continuous casting mold |

Abstract Using low melting point alloy Sn-Pb-Bi as the medium, a physical model of liquid alloy flow in the mold with vertical electromagnetic brake was built to investigate the level fluctuation behavior of liquid alloy under the condition of vertical electromagnetic brake. The instantaneous level fluctuation of liquid alloy at the center of pole width was measured by laser displacement, and the meniscus contour of liquid alloy with different current value was obtained by immersion plating method. The experimental results showed that as increasing of current value, the application of vertical electromagnetic brake can significantly decrease the height of meniscus and stable the level fluctuation of liquid alloy and then reduce the possibility of slag entrapment.
