Abstract After forging of Q345E ingot to flange, there are varied degrees of equivalent[?1.5 mm]to[?2.5 mm]intensive defects, the individual dispersion of the defect equivalent to[?3.0 mm]to[?8.0 mm,]and the equivalent of[?3.0 mm]to [?8.0 mm]defects due to F>B. In this paper the defects were systematically investigated, using UT, low magnification, optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy to locate the defects.The location, Macro and micro features of the flaw detection were analyzed by UT, low magnification, optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy. The results were analyzed in combination with field UT and re-exploration. The results show that this dense defects are due to the higher hydrogen content during the smelting and the irrational synergistic effect of cooling rate after forging.
