Abstract Aiming at the actual production on the 1# caster of 210 plant in LY steel， the cause of the surface longitudinal crack in slab was analyzed. It was believed that the longitudinal crack was related to cooling intensity of the mold， molten steel chemistry， casting speed， mold level fluctuation， etc. With corresponding measures being applied， the ratio of longitudinal crack was reduced from 4.99% to below 0.05%.
