Abstract: Pickling is the bottleneck of manufacturing process for high-quality medium plates of titanium and titanium alloy. The on-line pickling is difficult for duplex stainless steel plates, which is a challenge at home and abroad. TA2 titanium, 304 stainless steel and S32205 duplex stainless steel plates were selected as the representative products to study the pickling process in the horizontal continuous spray pickling line. The mixture of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid (composed of four elements including H, N, O and F) was proposed and discussed. Two-step mixed acid (HNO3+HF) pickling technology was investigated which included: the conception of two-step mixed acid (HNO3+HF) pickling technology; the numeric range of mass concentration of substance of two-step mixed acid (HNO3+HF); the table about the amount of substance of two-step mixed acid (HNO3+HF). Based on this technology, the on-line pickling of medium plates of special metal and alloy with wide product range was realized, including TA2 titanium, 304 stainless steel and S32205 duplex stainless steel. The surface of plate after pickling was silvery white with uniform color, which could meet the requirements of standard and user concerning surface quality of products.
