Abstract:The early fracture occurred during the bench fatigue test on one of the 42CrMo automobile front axles manufactured by a company. In order to analyze the causes of fracture and find preventive measures, fracture samples were analyzed by means of electrical scanning microscopy, optical metallurgy and spectroscopic analysis. And rough grinding scratches were found in the crack source area. The results indicated that the fracture originated from the root of rough grinding scratches and then expanded. Therefore, the early fracture caused by the abnormal position and quality of the wear marks was an accidental event.
