Abstract:A steel rolling plant rolled square billets with a steel grade of 60Si2CrVA and a size of 156 mm×156 mm into ϕ60 mm and ϕ65 mm round steel. The round steel was sent to the spring manufacturing factory for winding the spring, and cracking occurred during the winding process. In order to find out the reason for the fracture of 60Si2CrVA spring steel coil spring, the spring steel samples were subjected to low magnification inspection, hardness inspection, metallographic inspection, fracture analysis and chemical composition analysis. The results indicated that there was severe overheating in the spring steel base material, leading to the formation of longitudinal cracks. Therefore, the fracture was caused due to longitudinal crack propagation in the process of winding or quenching.
