Abstract The effects of Si content on the microstructure and property of RE-Al-Fe alloys were investigated by doping different amounts of ferrosilicon into 3% RE-Al-Fe alloy. The microstructure and of phase structure of samples was investigated using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The results showed that 3% RE-Al-Fe without Si was composed of FeAl3, Fe2Al5 and RE-Al-Fe phase. With the gradual increase of Si content (2%, 4%, 6% and 8%), the Al-Fe-Si phase was observed in alloys. The strength of Al-Fe-Si diffraction peak firstly increased and then decreased with the increase of Si content, and the diffraction peak intensity was highest when the Si content was 6%. Similarly, the hardness of material also firstly increased and then decreased with the increase of Si content, and the maximum hardness was 92HV when the Si content was 6%.
