Effect of graphite creep rate on thermal deformation |

Abstract The thermal deformation test of vermicular graphite cast iron brakes was simulated: the thin specimens were used to simulate the stress condition of train vermicular graphite cast iron brake discs in service; the thermal deformation test tooling was designed to ensure an identical and small amount of deformation (within the range of elastic deformation) on both ends of specimen; the simulation temperature for the train braking condition was 150 ℃, and the heating and holding period was 30 h; after natural cooling, the permanent deformation amount of the sample in a free state was measured. The statistical analysis of the test data was performed. Several sets of experiments were repeated to investigate the effect of different graphite creep rates (35%, 50%, 70% and 90%) on the thermal deformation of vermicular graphite cast iron. The results showed that when the graphite creep rate was in range of 35%90%, the thermal deformation tendency of vermicular graphite cast iron increased with the increase of the creep rate.
