Abstract

The non-metallic inclusions (NMI) in clean steel, which are mainly generated in steelmaking process, have great influence on the macro-properties of steels. The analysis of NMI can create the “bridge” between steelmaking process and the property of steels, and provide reference for the process control and R & D of clean steel products. The characterization technique of NMI was reviewed. It was classified into 35 types according to the sample preparation method. The automatic analysis of NMI with size of 1-20 μm by scanning electronic microscope (SEM) had become a hot topic recently. The characterization methods of NMI were briefly introduced. The concrete practices indicated that the measurement results could reflect the steelmaking process system (total oxygen control), and they were fully corresponded to the final macro-property of steels (drawing breaking rate). This method provided reference for other researches at home and abroad.
