Ultrasonic phased array inspection of wheel rim defects

Abstract

The quality of high-speed railway wheel is crucial due to its very high running speed. The manufacture standard of high-speed rail wheels is much higher than the ordinary rail. The detection of high-speed rail wheels is required repeatedly. Wheel rim is the key point of wheel detection. Phased array ultrasonic testing has a great advantage to improve the detection rate and detection efficiency of iron rim defects, because beam deflection ,focus and electronic scanning can be achieved through different delay law setting. The detection of the circumferential, radial and axial direction of the wheel rim was presented, and the detection method of the ultrasonic phased array was presented.
