The microstructure characteristics and mechanical properties of 9 m diameter 2219 aluminum alloy ring were comprehensively analyzed. And the experiment results showed that the mechanical properties of 9 m diameter 2219 aluminum alloy ring satisfied the requirement of AMS 4144F Aerospace Material Specification, but the ring still need to be improved in microstructure and distribution of precipitated phase to further upgrade its comprehensive properties. After the forging-cogging process, Al2Cu phase was broke down, and the size of grains was 100-200 μm after forging. After the ring rolling process, the grain was elongated along the peripheral direction and the size of grains grew up to about 200-400 μm, and the grain was coarsened in the rolling deformation process. During the tensile process, the hard-brittle Al2Cu phases can dissever the matrix to form the crack source, which was the main factor leading to the low elongation of the ring along the radial and axial direction.
