Analysis of Suface Cracks on Gas Cylinder of 34CrMo4 Steel

Abstract

The surface cracks of 34CrMo4 steel gas cylinder were studied by microstructure observation and electron microscopy analysis to reveal the characteristics and causes of crack. The results show that the surface cracking was quenching crack caused by uneven cooling in the quenchant. It is effective to reduce queching strees, thus reducing suface cracks by austempering or compressed air quenching.
