Level fluctuation in continuous casting mold with electromagnetic stirring
-
Abstract
Electromagnetic stirring had a strong influence on level fluctuation in continuous casting mold. The model was established based on the parameters of 250mm round billet continuous casting mold and electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) in the steel plant. The combined method of turbulence model and multiphase-flow model was adopted to study the level fluctuation in the mold with M-EMS. The reason of level fluctuation was analyzed. The results show that the liquid steel level exhibits a rotating parabolic surface, which is greatly different to the fluctuation without M-EMS. The level fluctuation is that of electromagnetic force effect in essence. The level fluctuation near the outlet of nozzle increases with the growing stirring intensity and slag entrapment will happen if the intensity increases to a certain value. In order to obtain better stirring effect, level fluctuation and slag entrapment should be considered in industrial process.
