    The effects of different coal ratios and reaction temperatures on silicon content in hot metal were studied under the condition of high powder coal injection (PCI) ratio in laboratory. The samples of coke taken from tuyere were analyzed by chemical methods. According to the remnant silicon dioxide in different samples, the effect of PCI ratio on silicon content in hot metal was studied in tuyere area. The results can not only certify the traditional theory, but also explain the relation between high PCI ratio and low silicon.

    The effects of Fe2O3 addition in MgO-CaO refractory on desulfurization of liquid iron were studied by SEM, EDA and chemical analysis. Fe2O3 of 1% and 4 % were added to MgO-CaO refractory as the lining of graphite crucible in which 150g iron powder with sulfur of 0. 15 % was charged. It is found that when the sample is heated at 1600℃for 40 min, 60 min and 90 min, the addition with Fe2O3 of 1% improves desulfurization greatly. However, the desulfurization ratio of the refractory with Fe2O3 addition of 4% is less than that with Fe2O3 addition of 1%. For the soaking time of 90 min, the desulfurization ratio is less than those of 40 min and 60 min. These phenomena were explained by the contrary roles of O2 and Fe2+ formed by reaction between liquid iron and Fe2O3 on desulfurization.

    A mathematical model which describes the fluid flow in a gas stirred original ladle and CAS-OB ladle was introduced. The fluid field analysis was obtained through mathematical simulation. In order to decrease the ladle refractory wearing and increase the heating speed of liquid steel, some measures should be adopted. The result shows that the flow fields in CASOB ladle and original ladle are different. With a fixed gas flow rate, the flow field is related to the plug position and the snorkel depth. When the nozzle is located at 0. 45r, where r is the radius of ladle bottom, the fluid field predicted by water modeling is quite satisfactory for im-proving the quality of liquid steel.

    The deoxidation behaviors of alloys bearing barium in pipe steel were researched with MgO crucible under argon atmosphere in MoSi₂ furnace at 1873 K. The total oxygen contents of molten steel, the distribution, size and morphology of deoxidation products in the steel were surveyed. The metamorphic mechanism for deoxidation products of alloy bearing barium was also discussed. The results show that applying alloy bearing barium to the pipe steel, very low total oxygen contents can be obtained, and deoxidation products, which easily float up from molten steel, can be changed in-to globular shape and uniformly distributed in steel. The equilibrium time of total oxygen is a-bout 25 min, and the terminal total oxygen contents range from 0. 0020% to 0. 0022% after treating with SiCa wire. The best deoxidizers are SiAlBaCa and SiAlBaCaSr.

    The comparison of different submerged entry nozzles (SEN)was made by numerical simulation regarding the influence of liquid steel flow field, heat transfer and mold fluxes, as well as solidification shell stress and surface quality of thin slabs. The optimum internal shape of mold and the SEN were obtained. The foundation for choice of internal shape and casting parameters of mold was built.

    A three-dimensional finite element method was developed to simulate the fluid flow, heat transfer and solidification for twin roll strip casting. An improved two-equation κ-ℇ model was used to incorporate the turbulence in fluid flow. The influence of vertical feeding and submerged entry nozzle feeding on the flow and temperature field was discussed. The optimum submersion depth and entry angle of submerged nozzle were obtained through comparison of the simulation results.

    An intelligent fuzzy-PID controller consisting of fuzzy logic controller and PID con-troller was developed to control the molten steel level of twin-roll strip caster. Additionally, a feedforward differential PID controller was used for stopper position control in order to avoid differential kick. It is proved by simulation that the proposed intelligent controller is able to obtain zero steady state error asymptotically and the control system is robust due to its fuggy behavior of the controller.

    Based on upper bound element method, the analysis model for press piercing process was constructed and its analytical expressions were obtained. For decreasing piercing resistance and increasing stiffness of plug post rod, the shape parameter of deformation cone for plug was optimized. The rule for selecting suitable value of the shape parameter was described. Based on the results of theoretical analysis, four kinds of plugs constructed from rotor parabola surface were manufactured, and the prototype tests were performed. The experimental data are quite similar to the results of theoretical analysis, so the results can be used as a reference for manufacturing press piercing mill.

    The characteristics of some elements in inoculant were analyzed. The effect of the morphology of instantaneous inoculant on its melting velocity was studied. When the inoculants pass through the same sieve number, the volume and the ratio of surface area to volume are different. It is evident from the theoretical analysis and experiment under some conditions that the melting velocity of inoculant depends on the morphology of inoculant. The morphology of inoculant during production should be controlled carefully.

    The total oxygen content and the behavior of non-metallic inclusions were studied systematically for steel Q345D. The production process of steel Q345D is BOF→argon stirring in ladle→slab casting at Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group)Co. The following results were obtained: the total oxygen of slab is 0. 0009%—0. 0012%, and the number of micro-inclusions is 1.63-2.03mm-2, while the amount of the macro-inclusions in one kilogram steel is 0. 495 mg.

    The DAFT (deformation assistant ferrite transformation) of austenite and reverse DIFT (deformation induced ferrite transformation) during isothermal holding after deformation were investigated by means of hot deformation simulator with laser dilatometer. It is found that the reverse DIFT can occur in a wide temperature region, from the temperature above Ae3 to below Ar3. However, during the isothermal holding, the reverse DIFT and DAFT of austenite take place, and therefore, the volume variation during holding time may be the combined effect of both phase transformations mentioned above. Nevertheless, the total volume and then the phase volume fraction change slowly, especially at lower holding temperature.

    The method of liquid-solid roll-bonding to produce bush material was described and used for producing a new bush material AlSn8Si2. 5Pb2Cu0. 8Cr0. 2. The results show that the aluminum alloy solidifies so fast during the process of liquid-solid roll-bonding that the micro-structure of alloy is made up of fine dendrite. The distributions of tin, silicon, lead, copper and chromium are uniform and dispersive, and the diffusion layer between aluminum alloy and steel is jagged. The stripped surface of steel is accompanied with matrix aluminum alloy, and the bonding strength of the interface between steel and aluminum alloy is near the strength of the matrix aluminum alloy.

    The strain-induced ferrite formed under different conditions was observed with SEM and optical microscope. The nucleation sites of strain-induced ferrite include grain boundary, grain inside, deformed band and annealing twin boundary. The shapes of the ferrite accordingly are equiaxed irregular polygonal, strip-shaped and acicular.

    Based on the nucleation and growth theory together with the influence of deformationon driving force and nucleation site, a numerical model was developed for predicting deformation-induced transformation (DIT). The numerical results of DIT of 16MnNb steel was presented and compared with the experimental ones. The calculated results are in a good agreement with the experimental ones, and the best calculated result is obtained when the constant a=0. 25 for steel 16MnNb.

    The effect of microalloying element vanadium on hydrogen-induced delayed fracture behavior of quenched and tempered low alloy CrMo type steel in Walpole aqueous solution was investigated. The sustained load tensile test was carried out by using notched tensile specimens. The experimental results show that the suitable addition of vanadium is effective in im-proving delayed fracture resistance. The finely dispersed precipitation of vanadium carbide causes a significant secondary hardening, so the tempering temperature of steel containing vanadium is higher than that of the base steel at the same strength level. This homogeneously distributed carbide acts as strong hydrogen trap, thus retards the diffusion and accumulation of hydrogen and avoids the entering of hydrogen into stress concentration site. These beneficial effects of vanadium carbide are the main reasons for the improvement of delayed fracture resistance of steel containing vanadium. Furthermore, the fine prior austenite grain of steel with suitable addition of vanadium is also an important factor for the improvement.

    The netlike eutectic carbide in twin-roll casting strip of W9Cr4V2 was dissolved and broken up gradually with increasing heating temperature during annealing treatment. Almost all eutectic carbides exist in granular form with heating temperature up to 950℃. It is considered that the refining of lamellar spacing made it possible for eutectic carbide to be granulated.

    Aiming at the water temperature measuring problem for controlled cooling system of rolling plant, a new water temperature measuring method based on soft-sensing method with a water temperature model of on-line self correction parameter was built. A water temperature compensation factor model was also built to improve coiling temperature control precision. It was proved that the model meets production requirements. The soft-sensing technique has ex-tensive applications in the field of metal forming.

    In order to improve the control precision of strip coiling temperature for hot strip mill, the BP neural network was combined with mathematical model to calculate convective heat-transfer coefficient of laminar flow cooling. The off-line calculated results indicate that the standard deviation of coiling temperature prediction is reduced by 22. 84% with the convective heat-transfer coefficient calculated by BP neural network. The prospects of this method for on-line application are bright. This method is more helpful to increasing the control precision of coiling temperature for hot strip steel.
