Abstract:This research describes the influence of oxygen blast furnace (OBF) atmosphere and the traditional blast furnace (T-BF) atmosphere on the softening and melting behavior of lump burden and lump-sinter mixed burden using the softening and melting test. The results indicate that in the OBF atmosphere, the development of reduction degree increased the quantity of the iron phase in the burden particle, and decreased the quantity of slag phase with low melting temperature, so the softening and melting properties of lump ore are developed compared to that in the T-BF case. In addition, through the analysis on relevant data of softening and melting process and on the microstructure of burden particles, it is revealed that the interaction effect also happened at the interface between lump and sinter particles in the OBF case. Because of the increase of iron phase amount and the reduction of slag phase amount, the contact of different slag is delayed, and the amount of contacted slag is reduced. Therefore, comparing with the T-BF case, the temperature on which the interaction behavior happened in the OBF case is raised, and the effect intensity is weakened.
