Abstract:Based on the physical characteristics of chatter marks, the interaction between marks and vibration of rolling mill is described. The effect of rollers, work roller bearings, spindle coupling clamp and roll grinding machines on chatter marks was studied with vibration measurement and mode analysis for both mill and roll grinding machine. The results show that chatter marks are a visual phenomenon caused by waves on strip surface, moreover, there are two causes of chatter marks formation, one is that the rolling mill (leveler) is vibrated at some frequency, the other is that there are marks on the surface of rollers. It is possible to control the marks by some measures such as matching of roller diameter, regular monitoring of multiple peak value of ball bearing vibration, use of damp absorber on grinding machine, speed change of rolling and grinding, and more careful maintenance of equipment.
