Abstract:The application and features of vaccum strip coating processes such as thermal jet evaporation, magnetron sputtering, electronbeam evaporation and plasma enhanced EB evaporation process were reviewed.This technology is walking towards mass production and has been realized in pilot lines at many steelmakers. The main advantages of vacuum strip coating processes are environmentfriendly, excellent film properties, versatile film material and easiness to integrate with other processes. The potential products would be surface modified current products, coatings for critical working conditions, interfacial layer, functional and composite coatings. The main problem for industrialization lies in the products and market orientation.
