Abstract:The effect of different boron content in low carbon steel on corrosion laws was investigated. The corrosion behavior of low carbon steels with different boron content was studied by salt spray corrosion test. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) were used to characterize the corrosion products of tested steels. The results show that the corrosion rate of tested steels is related to different boron content which added in the steels, the corrosion rate of the tested steel containing 0.002% boron is lower than that with no boron steel, on the contrary, it is higher when the boron content exceeds 0.002%, the corrosion rate of tested steels increases gradually when the boron content increases. A probable corrosion mechanism of boron is presented to explain the experimental results.
