Abstract Passivated magnisium powder is widely used in hot metal predesulfurization. A new compound passivated magnisium powder was developed with a new process. The powder of which burning point is 650 ℃, mean repose angle is 26° and average combustion inhibiting time is 25.7 s,is used for hot metal pretreatment at Baosteel,with good effects. The sulfur content of hot metal after predesulfurization is decreased to lower than 0.003%, and the lowest sulfur content is 0.001%.
