Abstract Runner sediment formation mechanism on Chenggang blast furnace was studied. The main reason of sediment formation is the integration of following factors: low fluidity of BF slag containing vatanium titanium, separation of TiC, Ti(C, N) in hot metal drops in slag, and temperature drop during tapping. The effective preventing measures are improving the fluidity of final slag and separation of slag from hot metal.
