Abstract The effect of power frequency on quality of ESR ingot was studied. The results show, with the decrease the power frequency, electric magnetic force became more violent, and the temperature in the slag bath became more homogeneous, so the depth of the molten pool was decreased; electrochemical reactions were occurred in slag pool with the decrease of the frequency，the atomic oxygen was dissolved in the molten metal pool and the nonmetallic inclusion content was increased.
